Dieter Overath

Dieter Overath, who had been involved with Amnesty International for many years and was a member of the board, was the first managing director of the Fairtrade Germany association (formerly TransFair) and developed the Fairtrade logo while establishing a licensing and monitoring system. Thanks to intensive information work and the mobilization of civil society supporters, Fairtrade is now the best-known social label with an awareness level of around 90%. By working for several years on the newly created Global Steering Committee FET and as CEO at Fairtrade International, Overath shaped the internationalization of the movement and expanded the Fairtrade range. His commitment to fair trading conditions was honored in 2022 by Federal President Steinmeier with the Federal Cross of Merit.
